In this book, Egya provides readers with an analytical and theoretical survey of Nigerian poetry of the 1980s. Throughout the text, he places emphasis on the cultural context in which the poetry was written and published, focusing on the interaction between the poetic and the Nigerian culture of military oppression. Specific texts examined include Afam Akeh’s This is Poetry as She Breathes, Abubakar Othman’s Wordsworth Lied, and Olu Oguibe’s I am Bound to this Land by Blood, among several others.
